The Kippah or Yarmulke Among Jews, the practice of covering the head has its origin as a way to show reverence, and as a way of physically making a distinction between the holy and the ordinary. It is most often worn during prayer or other sacred times such as studying the Torah, but some Ashkenazic (European) Jews cover their heads at all times. Sephardic (Mediterranean) Jews do not have the custom of wearing a kippah all the time. The yarmulke (a Yiddish word) or kippah (the Hebrew word) is not the only acceptable head covering, but it has become a widely recognized  way of Jewish identity. Wearing a kippah in public can also, in some communities, signify that one is religiously observant rather than secular. Traditionally, the kippah is worn by men, but increasingly women are also adopting this head covering as a replacement for either lace head covers or fashion hats. This reflects both the kippah’s status as a symbol of Jewish identity and the increasing equality of women in many Jewish communities. I make these kippot (plural of kippah) as my contribution to the community and respect for the culture and spirituality of Judaism. AND for my admiration and gratitude for my spiritual teacher, Rabbi Ted Falcon, Bet Alef Meditational Congregation in Bellevue, WA.

Testimonials from members of Bet Alef:

"I lent my larger Kippah to the pianist last night because his Kippah was falling apart. His head is a bit large so he was absolutely delighted when it fit him. And I think his playing was the best it's been so far. So your Kippot are WORKING!" Rabbi Ted Falcon, Bet Alef

"The Rabbis were impressed with my Kippah. I really think that the quality of your work deserves greater attention. I feel blessed to have your creative energies supporting this spiritual adventure." Rabbi Ted Falcon, Bet Alef

We can dance with it on without the fear of finding it on the floor!" 5 members of Bet Alef
